 कोंगथोंग गांव के लोग अपने गांव वालों तक अपना संदेश पहुंचाने के लिए सीटी बजाते हैं. कोंगथोंग के ग्रामीणों ने इस धुन को जिंगरवाई लवबी कहा जाता है, जिसका अर्थ ‘मां का प्रेम गीत’ है. यहां रहने वाले गांव वालों के दो नाम होते हैं, एक सामान्य नाम और दूसरा गाने का नाम. इसके अलावा गाने के नाम के दो वर्जन होते हैं, एक लंबा गाना और दूसरा छोटा गाना. छोटा गाना आम तौर पर घर में इस्तेमाल किया जाता है.

कोंगथोंग में लगभग 700 ग्रामीण हैं और 700 अलग- अलग धुनें हैं. कोंगथोंग गांव के निवासी फिवस्टार खोंगसित ने बताया कि किसी व्यक्ति को संबोधित करने के लिए इस्तेमाल की जाने वाली ‘धुन’ बच्चे के जन्म के बाद माताओं से बनाई जाती है . इसके साथ ही कोई ग्रामीण मरता है तो उसके साथ-साथ उस व्यक्ति की धुन भी मर जाती है. उन्होंने बताया कि हमारे पास हमारी अपनी धुनें होती हैं और मां ने इन धुनों को बनाया है. हमने धुनों को दो तरह से इस्तेमाल किया है , लंबी धुन और छोटी धुन. हमारे गांव या घर में छोटी धुन का इस्तेमाल करते है.



मेघालय के कुछ अन्य गांव भी अपना रहे है प्रथा
खोंगसिट ने बताया कि यह व्यवस्था हमारे गांव में पीढ़ी दर पीढ़ी चली आ रही है. हमें नहीं पता कि यह कब शुरू हुई, लेकिन सभी ग्रामीण इससे बहुत खुश हैं. गांव के एक अन्य ग्रामीण जिप्सन सोखलेट ने कहा कि एक-दूसरे से बात करने के लिए धुनों का भी इस्तेमाल करते हैं. उन्होंने कहा कि हमारे गाँव में लगभग 700 की आबादी है, इसलिए हमारे पास लगभग 700 अलग-अलग धुनें हैं.  सोखलेट ने कहा कि अब मेघालय के कुछ अन्य गांवों के लोग भी इस प्रथा को अपना रहे हैं. यह प्रणाली पारंपरिक रूप से पीढ़ी दर पीढ़ी चली आ रही है. हम इन प्रथाओं को जारी रख रहे हैं.

 मेघालय में यह अनोखी और दुर्लभ परंपरा में इस गांव के लोग एक-दूसरे तक अपनी बात पहुंचाने के लिए सीटी बजाते हैं। इसी वजह से गांव को अनोखा नाम ‘व्हिसलिंग विलेज’ मिला है। बता दें कि ग्रामीण बेहद खास धुन का इस्तेमाल करके एक-दूसरे को बुलाते हैं। यह परंपरा पीढ़ियों से चली आ रही है। फिवस्टार खोंगसित नाम के ग्रामीण बताते हैं कि ग्रामीणों ने इस खास धुन को ‘जिंगरवाई लवबी’ नाम दिया है। इसका मतलब है- ‘मां का प्यार भरा गीत’
