Vir Singh Vana … As a leading pioneer within the hospitality industry, understanding the importance of clean water, air and environment for a healthy life, Six Senses Vana has set a bold and achievable goal towards plastic-freedom and is committed to making long-term positive changes in the fabric of every property. Following its pledge as a founding signatory of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative in 2019, efforts to eliminate single-use plastic are setting a great example. This includes eliminating the brand’s “18 most unwanted” items, which include everything from guest amenities to behind-the-scenes materials like coffee pods and fruit packaging. It also means sourcing plastic-free products, arranging packaging take-back, bottling drinking water on property and sharing best practices.
Vana also protects the environment by setting up its own water plant to purify water and replacing plastic with glass bottles. Veer Singh Max started this experiment with the desire for welfare of the society which has become a great example today. Six Senses Wana was also the first hospitality brand to collaborate with the United States Coalition on Sustainability and Sustain Chain as part of an ambitious plastic-free strategy to eliminate and avoid all virgin plastic materials from its hotel and spa operations
Steps taken by Six Senses Wana to achieve the goal
Removed all unnecessary plastic packaging from bathroom facilities, room amenities and retail locations
Introduced more reusable solutions in kitchens to replace cling film and plastic packaging of fresh produce
Engaged with suppliers where appropriate to source naturally compostable packaging and other materials
Worked with other hotels and industry partners to share best practices, supplier recommendations and other information to help all stakeholders move away from plastic
Eliminated over 1.5 million plastic bottles each year by bottling its own drinking water into reusable glass bottles
Used natural materials in place of everything from plastic straws to toothbrushes, Also used are crates, cloth bags, bottles and containers that can be reused and refilled.
The journey to plastic liberation is made up of many journeys
Each journey to plastic liberation ends with Six Senses Vana using no plastic, which is a great good news for our society and life. The use of durable glass bottles at Six Senses Vana is a step towards eliminating single-use plastic and the presence of toxic plastic. This was one of the many bottles that came out of the refinery that day. Tomorrow it will be refilled, ready for another story with another guest on Vana’s journey to greenery, purity and cleanliness..
