कहानी शुरू करने से पहले ही आपको बता दूँ की ये बस गांव वालों की कही-सुनी बातें हैं। इस कहानी का कोई ठोस प्रमाण तो नहीं हैं पर अगर आप Jeolikot जाएंगे तो कोई ना कोई आपको इस विचित्र घटना के बारे में बता ही देगा।ये 19वी शताब्दी की बात है जब लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल Colonel Warwick वॉर्विक नाम के एक अंग्रेजी अफसर ज्योलिकोट आए थे। उस समय में ज्योलिकोट एक छोटा सा गाँव था जहाँ पर Nainital  जाते हुए अंग्रेजी अफसर और उनके घोड़े कुछ देर सुस्ताते थे। यहाँ पर रुके वॉर्विक साहब को एक स्थानीय लड़की से प्यार हो गया और कर्नल साहब यहीं के होकर रह गए।

उन्होंने गाँव की उस महिला से शादी रचाई और [Jeolikot ]ज्योलिकोट में एक घर भी बनाया। शादी के कुछ सालों बाद वार्विक साहब की पत्नी का देहांत हो गया और 20 कमरों के इस घर में वो अकेले रहने लगे। ना नौकरों को अंदर आने की इजाज़त थी और गाँव वाले अगर पास से भी गुज़रते तो उनको धुत्कार कर भगा दिया जाता।इस दौरान गाँव वालों ने यहाँ हो रही अजीबोगरीब गतिविधियों पर ध्यान दिया। हर रात अँधेरा होते ही उनको एक औरत दिखा करने लगी जो की घोड़े पर सवार होकर गाँव भर में घूमती थी। लोग घर के अंदर भी रहते तो उनको घोड़े के सरपट दौड़ने की आवाज़ आती। थोड़ी छानबीन के बाद पता चला की वो वॉर्विक साहब ही थे जो अपनी मृत पत्नी के कपड़े और गहने पहन कर रोज़ घोड़े पर सवार गाँव के चक्कर काटते।
