  • पुराणों के अनुसार संभवतः मनु-शतरूपा ही पहले दंपत्ति रहे होंगे। जिनकी संतान इंसान आज दुनिया भर में है। लेकिन मनु और शतरूपा धरती पर कहां से आए? दरअसल, इन दोनों की ही उत्पत्ति ब्रह्मा जी द्वारा हुई थी … ब्रह्मपुराण के अनुसार शतरूपा का जन्म ब्रह्मा के वामांग से हुआ था और वह मनु की पत्नी थीं। सुखसागर के अनुसार सृष्टि की वृद्धि के लिये ब्रह्मा जी ने अपने शरीर को दो भागों में बांट लिया जिनके नाम ‘का’ और ‘या’ (काया) हुए। उन्हीं दो भागों में से एक से पुरुष तथा दूसरे से स्त्री की उत्पत्ति हुई।

  • 1st Marriage in World पुरुष का नाम स्वयंभुव मनु और स्त्री का नाम शतरूपा था। इन्हीं प्रथम पुरुष और प्रथम स्त्री की संतानों से संसार के समस्त जनों की उत्पत्ति हुई। मनु की सन्तान होने के कारण वे मानव कहलाए। इन्हें प्रियव्रत, उत्तानपाद आदि सात पुत्र और तीन कन्याएं थीं।

– मत्स्य पुराण में लिखा है कि ब्रह्मा से इसे स्वायंभुव मनु, मारीच आदि सात पुत्र हुए।

– हरिहरपुराण के अनुसार शतरूपा ने घोर तपस्या करके स्वायंभुव मनु को पति रूप में प्राप्त किया था और इनसे ‘वीर’ नामक एक पुत्र हुआ।

– मार्कण्डेयपुराण में शतरूपा के दो पुत्रों के अतिरिक्त ऋद्धि तथा प्रसूति नाम की दो कन्याओं का भी उल्लेख है। कहीं एक और तीसरी कन्या देवहूति का भी नाम मिलता है।

– शिव तथा वायुपुराणों में दो कन्याओं प्रसूति एवं आकूति का नाम है।

वायुपुराण के अनुसार ब्रह्म शरीर के दो अंश हुए थे जिनमें से एक से शतरूपा हुई थीं।

– देवीभागवत आदि में शतरूपा की कथाएं कुछ भिन्न दी हुई हैं।

– मनु और शतरूपा, इन्हीं प्रथम पुरुष और प्रथम स्त्री की सन्तानों से संसार के समस्त जनों की उत्पत्ति हुई।

– मनु की सन्तान होने के कारण वे मानव या मनुष्य कहलाए। स्वायंभुव मनु को आदि भी कहा जाता है।

– सप्तचरुतीर्थ के पास वितस्ता नदी की शाखा देविका नदी के तट पर मनुष्य जाति की उत्पत्ति हुई।

– प्रमाण यही बताते हैं कि आदि सृष्टि की उत्पत्ति भारत के उत्तराखण्ड अर्थात् इस ब्रह्मावर्त क्षेत्र में ही हुई।

– ब्रह्मा के एक दिन को कल्प कहते हैं। एक कल्प में 14 मनु हो जाते हैं।

– एक मनु के काल को मन्वन्तर कहते हैं। वर्तमान में वैवस्वत मनु (7वें मनु) हैं।
