2007 में University of Florida के Zoologist Kent Vliet ने भी सिद्ध किया था कि वाकई कुछ जानवर खाते हुए सुबकते हैं। उन्होंने 7 में से 5 घड़ियालों को शिकार निगलने के बाद रोते हुए भी फिल्माया था। Vliet की Theory के अनुसार जब इन जानवरों के जबड़े खाते हुए आपस में टकराते हैं, तब एक शारीरिक प्रक्रिया कि वजह से इनकी आंखों से पानी निकलता है। डॉक्टर इस प्रक्रिया को “Crocodile Tears” कहते हैं।

Crocodile Tears वैज्ञानिकों ने इंसान से लेकर जानवरों के आंसुओं पर रिसर्च किया, तो जहां तक बात मगरमच्छ के आंसुओं की है, तो साल 2006 में न्यूरोलॉजिस्ट D Malcolm Shaner और जूलॉजिस्ट Kent A Vliet ने अमेरिकन घड़ियालों पर रिसर्च की. उन्हें पानी से दूर सूखी जगह पर खाना दिया गया, तो उनकी आंखों से खाते वक्त आंसू निकलने लगे. उनकी आंखों से बुलबुले और आंसू की धार निकल पड़ी. बायो साइंस में इस स्टडी का परिणाम देते हुए कहा गया कि मगरमच्छ वाकई खाते हुए आंखों से आंसू बहाते हैं, जो किसी भावना का परिणाम नहीं हैं.

  • जब मगरमच्छ के जबड़े में शिकार फंसा होता है और वह उसे चबा रहा होता है तब उसकी आंखों से आंसू निकल रहे होते। दरअसल, यह आंसू नहीं होते बल्कि पानी होता है। मगरमच्छ को शिकार करने में ज्यादा श्रम नहीं करना पड़ता लेकिन उसे चबाने और पचाने में काफी परिश्रम करना पड़ता है। भोजन के दौरान बार-बार हांफने और फुफकारने के कारण उसकी आंखों से पानी निकलने लगता है। इसी पानी को मगरमच्छ के आंसू कहा जाता है। इसका मतलब यह हुआ कि जब कोई व्यक्ति ‘मगरमच्छ के आंसू’ कहावत का उपयोग करता है तो यह मान लेना चाहिए कि वह मगरमच्छ के बारे में कुछ नहीं जानता।
