- Uttarakhand Heros देव सिंह की कहानी दुनिया के करोड़ों आम लोगों की तरह ही बेहद साधारण है लेकिन इनकी ज़िंदगी में एकमात्र असाधारण चीज रही इनके बेटे का जन्म. 1906 में क्वीतड़ गांव में ही देव सिंह के घर उनके इस असाधारण बेटे ने जन्म लिया. हालांकि बच्चा तो साधारण ही था लेकिन नियति ने उसकी किस्मत ऐसी लिखी थी कि वह आगे चलकर असाधारण हो गया. देव सिंह ने बड़े प्यार से अपने बेटे का नाम दान सिंह बिष्ट रखा. देव सिंह का ये बेटा बचपन से ही एक तेज बुद्धि का बालक था. परिवार आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर था शायद इसीलिए पढ़ाई के बजाए बच्चे ने काम करना ही सही समझा.

- Uttarakhand Heros गरीबी के दौर से गुजर रहे इस देश में उन दिनों जमींदारों और अंग्रेजों का राज था. ऐसे गुलामी के दौर में इस शख्स ने अपनी मेहनत से लकड़ी समेत अन्य व्यापारों के जरिए दुनिया भर में नाम कमाया. किंग आफ टिंबर के नाम से मशहूर हुए दान सिंह अविभाजित भारत में जम्मू कश्मीर, लाहौर, पठानकोट से वजिराबाद तक लकड़ी की बल्लियों की विशाल मंड़ियां स्थापित करने के बाद अपने लकड़ी व्यापार कश्मीर से लेकर बिहार व नेपाल तक फैलाया. अपने व्यापार द्वारा उस समय उन्होंने उत्तराखंड के साथ साथ देश के अन्य क्षेत्रों के लगभग 6000 लोगों को रोजगार दिया. देखते ही देखते घी बेचने वाले का बेटा दान सिंह बिष्ट अब दान सिंह मालदार बन चुके थे. उन्होंने धीरे धीरे पिथौरागढ़ के अलावा टनकपुर, हल्द्वानी, नैनीताल, मेघालय, असाम तथा नेपाल के बर्दिया और काठमांडू तक में अपनी प्रॉपर्टी खरीद ली.
